Nice old example of a Sudanese sword, usually known to collectors as a ‘Kaskara’. The hilt with very nicely chiselled and engraved decoration on silver, iron ‘cruciform’ crossguard. The double edged blade with five narrow fullers to the forte, good condition. Complete with its original hide scabbard with typical flared tip to the end, silver mounts, locket and chape with filigree silver decoration (slight reglued area to leather tip). Two hanging bands fronted with white crocodile or lizard reptile skin, and two triangular decorated tassels. Dating to the late 19th century. african
