Unusual Turkish or Greek sword Military with Yataghan blade and ribbon damascus blade

Description

Unusual sword with Yataghan blade. Military style iron mounts retaining some original blued surface, the scabbard with black hide covering and reverse sewn wire seam in Ottoman style. The blade of wide forward leaning steel, thickened black and displaying a bold ‘Turkish-ribbon’ style damascus pattern to both sides of the blade. The hilt with interesting European style carved horn grip with ribbed surfaces and baluster type pommel. Similar swords were used by during the Greek wars of Independence, suggesting this sword may originate from this particular part of the Ottoman Empire.Early 19th century.  middle eastern
