Superb antique Tibetan silver and coral mounted broadsword

Description

A fine Tibetan broadsword. The mounts of very finely chiselled silver, set with coloured corals. The central section of black hide, with textile. The well-made steel single edged blade showing the characteristic folded laminated ‘flame’ pattern of earlier Tibetan pieces. The form of pommel with discoid lower mounts is one of the rarer forms of sword from this area, dating to the 18th/19th century, perhaps earlier. The reverse of the pommel with indigo dyed woollen tassel attached. A stunning example, very rarely obtainable in this complete form and such good condition. 37 inches approximately. Purchased in Lhasa in the ’60’s. Tibet/Far East
