Simple Ottoman yataghan from Greece

A simple but interesting Yataghan sword probably from Crete in the Greek Ottoman provinces. Dating to the 19th century. The blade has very unusually been made from a French Chasspot bayonet blade dating to the very early 19th century. Along the spine the back of the date engraving can still be just seen which appears to be 1819. The hilt is made in very traditional Cretan style with splayed black horn ears, white metal spacers, and brass rivets, and engraved furniture to the hilt. Brass engraved bolsters hold the blade to the handle. Original scabbard is present with some damage, loss to black leather and tip, split to the upper joint near the tip. Reverse sewn with metal wire. An interesting and unique piece. 68 cms long overall
