Scarce Omani Hide Buckler

 Heavy and very hard hide buckler shield from Oman, probably Rhino or hippo hide. Used traditionally in fighting with the long straight bladed arab sword the kattara. Decorated with concentric circles, and with a deeply domed pointed front to deflect blows, the reverse with a simple hide handhold grip. Decorated with two engraved star shaped fittings either side. 19th  century
