Rare early Deccan Two-Handed sword with ball grips

Description

An extremely rare Two handed pole weapon, a variation of a two handed sword, this shape limited to the western Deccan or central regions of India. This example is a very well balanced weighty fighting example. Very interesting construction, it is possible that the main shaft of the weapon is made from a gun barrel with a terminal of a tigers face, or indeed possibly made specifically for this item, it is very strong thick steel.  The three ball fittings to the handle are hollow and filled with rattling material. The blade appears to be from an early european blade of backsword type maybe 16th or 17th century, fitted to the shaft with a long rivetted mount. Dark aged patina, with some dings and small areas of wear through to the balls. Wonderfully balanced piece very good display item
