A very nice example of this classic Arab sword from Oman, kattara. High quality exmpale  very rarely retaining all the leather and gilt thread strapwork.  The scabbard covered with blackhide, embossed with scrolling decoration in entirety. Silver mounts very finely decorated with piercing and raised designs. The top with a large silver mount. The small chape is missing. The sword itself features a well made broad steel double edged blade with fuller to the top, one side with three very deep makers marks. The hilt with tapering grip, deocrated and covered with bands of woven  black leather and silver wire in itricate designs, the top pommel rectangular of steel. Very attractive sword circa 1850
