Large-bladed South African stabbing spear
Description
An early spear from South Africa, probably one of the Nguni groups as this example is in the Zulu ‘iklwa’ stabbing spear style. The large steel blade with heavy age patina, each side stepped. The upper shaft bound with shrunken hide and copper wire to the upper section. The wooden shaft in good condition with the end flaring slightly. A nice large and old example circa 1900. Overall length 54 inches, the blade 19 inches approximately.
