A heavy and substantial German or North European target Crossbow probably dating to the 18th/early 19th century. The stock carved from solid oak, metal fitted parts, including and elaborate handguard and trigger including a set trigger, sights, the front bow made of thick solid steel bound with cord. The bowstring thick and strong formed from a bundle of fibres. This is a massive very functional piece probably for hunting or sport.
