Early Ottoman Gilt Axe

Description

 A rare and early Ottoman War axe in fabulous condition. This shape of  steel axehead is early and date back to the 17th century and earlier. This example is covered with gold applied decoration allover with scrollwork and a panel each side inscribed with arabic writing, one side saying ‘ I put my trust in God’ the other untranslated as of now. The shaft is covered with  large silver gilt mounts including a short one protruding above the head, again an earlier feature. The centre portion with remains of a velvet fabric heavily worn from age
