Antique recurved bow from Central Asia/Uzbekistan

 A wonderful old compound or recurved bow from Central Asia/Uzbekistan – Samarkhand or Bukhara. These powerful bows with broad limbs trace a distinct heritage back to the bows used by the Mongols and Turkic tribes of the Timurid period, to which they are remarkably similar. This bow is boldly decorated with simple floral decorative features, the limbs are broad and thick, the shoulders have raised strings rests typical of oriental and far eastern bows. The bow survives in strung condition which gives one more of an impression of size and power which the unstrung recurved bow doesn’t in general, unusually the string in place here is made of many twisted bundled threads of a white fibre coated to the outside with a lacquer or glue.
