Lovely Large Ngombe or Ngambi hook sword from the Congo

A gorgeous example of a large hook sword, perhaps used for throwing or parrying by the congolese tribes of central Africa. The sculptural quality of this weapon is obvious, finely made facetted steel blade with chamfered surfaces, the end hook with sharpening to both edges. The decoration continues throughout the sword in areas of linear chiselling and engraving. The hilt in excellent condition, wrapped with copper strip retaining a deep uncleaned patination, the bottom of the pommel with an iron ring for attaching a strap or tassel. 19th century. african
