Good quality Persian War Axe Tabar, the heavy steel head made from watered wootz steel, adorned with borders decorated in gold with calligraphy and chiselled work. The reverse peen top and bottom sides of the axe also gold decorated. Surmounted by a gilded steel peacock, an unusual feature. This can be unscrewed to reveal a long four-sided spike or weapon which is almost the full length of the shaft . The shaft is etched with watering, the upper and lower parts chiselled and with gold remaining. 19th century.
