A very nice high quality Indian Axe weapon, from North Western Indian known as a Bhuj, or elephants ear axe on account of its unusual blade shape. This is a heavy functional weapon, the steel blade is very thick and sharp, and decorated on both sides with different panels of decoration almost complete in the gilded silver panels. The elephant head below the blade is beautifully made with tusks and trunk, retaining thick gold to the surface, The shaft of steel covered with engraved silver gilt, areas of corrosion and blistering near the top very solid and attractive, the finial to the base unscrews and holds a hidden steel blade. 66 cms long overall, this weapon dates to the 19th century possibly the earlier part.
