Very Fine Russian or Caucasian Kindjal Sword with Gold, Silver and Niello dated 1858

A fine Russian or Georgian Kindjal of superb quality, and surviving in remarkable condition. Gilt-silver mounts with extensive Niello scrolling inlay, the reverse of each fully stamped with a sequence of Makers, Assay and Proof markings dating the piece to 1858. The hilt of black horn with gold applied. The blued steel blade in fabulous condition, retaining extensive thick gold decoration to both sides, including panels containing arabic calligraphy. A deep fuller runs offset from fort to tip on both sides, the upper side with a deep makers stamp inlaid with gold. A wonderful quality Caucasian sword in magnificent condition. middle east
