An unusual Sudanese long knife circa 1900. The hilt of ebony with some turned detail, and ivory or bone ring decoration. The blade of simple repurposed steel engraved with calligraphy on both sides in Omdurman fashion and a fish to one side, and a scorpion to the other. The sheath covered with black hide and applied with an entire small corcodile skin, typical of Sudanic Mahdist period pieces.
