Unusual Persian curved Kard dagger with damascened decoration

 A nice Persian dagger of kard type, unusually of curved outline, far rarer than the straight variety usually encountered. The blade is of etched damascus steel, double edged, and rigid with finely fluted fullers, the tip is reinforced to aid penetration and avoiding breakage. The grips, of bone or ivory, the iron mounts between are decorated with scrolling designs applied with gold, the shaped bolster and a panel eitherside of the blade forte similarly decorated beautifully with floral designs. This kard dagger has its original sheath of green hide sewn up to the reverse with brass wire, there is some loss to the green upper surface of the leather at the flexible point at the entry to the main sheath body. The sheath retains its silver chape decorated finely in hand chiselled designs. A very nice example dating to circa 1800. 16 inches overall. indo persian indian
