Safavid period Persian Axe with chiselled wootz steel blade

A nice early Persian War or Saddle-Axe ‘Tabarzin’, dating to the late 17th or 18th centuries. Heavy steel head of wootz steel, chiselled and pierced with designs and calligraphy. The underside with a cartouche containing arabic calligraphy perhaps the makers name. Mounted on a wooden shaft reinforced with steel down the centre, and with steel rivets, the grip of facetted steel. Very much a high quality, heavy weight functional fighting piece. The head with rubbing and wear overall, watering faint but present.
