A most interesting and possibly extremely rare survival of an early horse cover of leather probably Ottoman Turkish. Sewn with leather, the cloth features several overlaid decorative panels of leatherwork, and interestingly at the front has a series of punched decorative copper plaques joined by a chain of copper and brass. The brass feature of the end of this chain is reminiscent of the links used on Ottoman shishak helmets and may correspon with these in terms of age and region. Very good condition, dry and with some old repairs from use. possibly 16th/19th century
