Rare Mahrattan Sossun Patah Sword circa 1700

A rare Mahrattan sword ‘Sossun Patah’  typified by its heavy leaning-forward blade in this example made from an attractive watered pattern welded steel. This is a heavy fighting sword with thick substanstialsteel mounts, the grip is mound with lead as occasionally found on authentic war swords to create good balance and add weight to the blow. The mounts here are chiselled and pierced, large hand and knuckle guard, the teardrop shaped pommel with a long thick finial for an extra handgrip when needed. The blade has two small stamped makers marks either side, the pooled watered pattern evident to both sides, the tip becoming double edged near the point. Good solid condition.
