Rare Early Indian Lance

Description

A very old and interesting Indian Spear. Broad arrow shaped blade with thickened tip and central ridge, attracyive chiselled features to the bottom, including an animal head holding the blade itself. The shaft is tapered at each end with the central section becoming very thick and strong. This is not just a straight stick..  The shaft is covered with remains of the original surface which is a hard black material moulded with embossed patterns allover, a form of resin or ‘guttapercha’ type substance. much of this has been lost due to its fragility. The foot of the spear is mounted with iron. Very rare piece 18th century or earlier
