beautiful scarce Burmese Lance with silver mount

Description

A rare lance from Burma. The steel blade beautifully shaped with facetted neck, very thick and robust. Bamboo shaft, the end with again beautifully shaped iron foot with facetted sides, and silver mounts. The collar of the spear with a swollen silver repousse fitting depicting five Hintha or Hamsa birds, with mythological asssociation. By association with the Royal paddle listed also on the site, it seems likely that this lance was taken from King Thibaws possessions at Mandalay during the British takeover in 1885. Good condition, one birds head lost.
