Pulwouar sword from Afghanistan. A nice untouched scimitar sword from Afghanistan or North India with a deeply curved swept single edged heavy blade. The blade is fullered for its entire length with a single broad deep fuller, and a series of shorter ones with an inlaid decorative feature at intervals. At the forte there are several panels of inlaid inscription, including a section of arabic calligraphy, and a magic ‘bedouh’ square. At the tip the blade becomes double edged for thrusting, here there is a fair amount of old pitting and wear presumably where the sword was kept in a wet scabbard. The hilt is of chiselled steel with two drooping dragon head quillons in reference to early persian swords, the pommel dished with a flat top and a small pommel finial. A nice honest fighting sword dating to the 19th century. 93 cms approximately
