Persian Steel Axe with Goldwork and Chiselled decoration

Description

 A good quality Qajar period Ceremonial Axe, made all of steel. The blade with watered patterning, heavily chiselled decorations to the centre and the edge, embellished with applied gold  and silver decoration. The rear side of the axe with a dragons open jaws, within which is an interesting feature, a moving toggle with a painted womans face, which when shaken makes a noise.The shaft with etched damascus patterning for its entire length.  19th century, Iran
