Antique Persian Mace steel and silver

Antique Persian Mace. An unusual and rare form of mace weapon, from Eastern Persia or Bukharan region. Made entirely of steel, The solid steel head is spindle shaped, with a pointed nub finial. The whole decorated with applied silver in tight patterns of scrolls and motifs, reminiscent of those used further east in Mongolia and even China.

Two similar maxes are shown in Stones glossary figure 533 4 and 8 which share the same form, one of which is also inlaid with turquoise, a typical Bukharan element. Ceremonial versions of these maces exist with stone heads, but this example appears to be a fully functional practical example. Very rare form of antique persian mace.
