Moroccan Jambiya or Koummya dagger with silver mounts and horn hilt

Description

A good Moroccan jambiya or ‘koummya’ dagger. Very thick strong double edged curved steel blade with typical staggered chamfers to each edge. The sheath covered with red silk fabric, the mounts elaborately chiselled from thick silver the chape and the locket separately struck with a quality or makers mark within the pattern. Each silver hanging ring again struck with quality mark. The hilt made from a single piece of high quality horn, mounted with silver to the top and bottom. Circa 1860. african
