Massive Chinese or Vietnamese Halberd

Description

Massive Chinese or Vietnamese Halberd.  A simply enormous 19th century Halberd or polearm from either Vietnam or China. The robust steel curved blade is the biggest we’ve ever seen, measuring 86 cms in itself. The entire piece is 162 cms, the oval section red lacquered shaft has been reduced a long time ago, which presumably means the original piece was probably an addition metre long or so. The blade is strong and thick, made for use, the edge is sharp, and the back front shaped edge is also sharpened. chiselled decorations to both side, and the rear section with a hole for tassel or similar addition. The mounts to the shaft are of thick solid iron banding, overall this fearsome weapon must have been wielded by a man of strength, and skill. A wonderful and rare display piece
