Description

 A rare South Indian axe, probably from the Tanjore/Mysore region. The steel blade beautifully decorated allover with overlaid silverwork, one side depicting a deer being attacked by a tiger, the other with a winged angel. Brass shaped mounts, and a shaft made from a most unusual streaky hardwood. 19th century.
