Long Mughal Indian sword with gold and European blade

A magnificent early mughal Indian sword of Firangi type, dating to the 17th/early 18th century Mughal period. The hilt embellished with very accomplished goldwork in fine repeating geometric patterns, the tiny gold appliques additionally incised with detail, incredibly fine work. The basket hilt with a long protrudin ferrule to the large wide dished hilt. The blade very long, single edged becoming double edged near the tip, fullered and stamped with blade makers markings to both sides, probably Italian or Genoese 16th century origin, These blades were highly prised in India at this time for the quality of their flexible sharp steel, and length of the blades.
