Large Hippo Spear from the Congo

A magnificent large Spear from the Congo, used for hunting Hippo. The enormous robust and very sharp blade very well made with simple decorations, the shaft carved with decoration at the centre, and bound for its length with coiled copper and iron strip, and am iron foot or ferrule to the end. Made with beauty but ulimately a very practical and presumably lethal weapon. 19th century. 150 cms overall the blade 53 cms approximately
