Interesting good quality Vietnamese Guom sword

Description

 A very attractive and interesting sword from Vietnam ‘Guom’.  The blade on this piece is excellent quality steel light and sharp, along the fullers can be seen traces of  chinese calligraphy, and other symbols which are faint and hard to make out in places, but which testifies to the age of this piece.The hilt is a single piece of horn, carved, and inlaid with beautiful mother of pearl decorations, the handguard of brass or bronze, the base of the hilt has a thick silver collar very tastefully engraved. Complete with its original scabbard which has finely engraved brass fittings including a chape ot the tip. The main body is covered by highly contrasting polished tortoiseshell, in perfect condition. A most interesting sword dating to the 19th century.
