Indian Sword ‘ Sossun Pattah’ rare blade variant with Silver Damascened decoration

 An interesting 19th century variation of the Indian sword known as a Sossun Pattah. The blade unusually angled forward unlike most Asian sword which curved backwards. The most clear relative to the sossun pattah is the Ottoman sword the ‘yataghan’ indeed occasionally  Indian Sossun pattahs have Turkish blades fitted probably through trade. This example has a stout steel blade with a small panel of chiselled details to one side, there appears to be some slight patterning to the steel at various points so it is possible the blade is also of damascus steel.  The back edge is greatly thickened and reinforced to stop any flex at all. The blade has a ricasso, small area of unsharpened edge nearest the grip to allow the finger to be looped over the quillon, a typically Indian feature. The tulwar style hilt has silver flower and geometrical koftgari damascening decoration, the pommel has a rounded disc in traditiional style.
