Indian Steel shield 19th century. Attractive antique Indian shield made from Steel, ‘otherwise known as a ‘dhal’. Fully chiselled by hand allover with foliage and decorated with panels of animals fighting and flowers damascened with gold and silver. The four central bosses with pierced out scalloped edges and the centres decorated with gold koftgari. The edge reinforced with a fretted steel border. The reverse retains some of its original fabric lining with embroidered panels depicting peacocks. Good overall condition, 19th century, the diameter is 44 cms
