Indian ‘fakirs Horns’ Madu Parrying shield

A scarce Indian parrying weapon sometimes known as ‘Fakirs Horns’ or Madu. The small central shield of dhal or buckler form of bronze with four small domed bosses and two raised bone features. The shield face shows traces of silvering and gilding, the two long overlapping blackbuck horns used as a grip, each is tipped with a bronze spearpoint with traces of gilding in the recesses. The reverse of the shield is also silvered. Very nice example, the horns longer than most. 19th century. Indo Persia
