Indian chillanum dagger – An all steel dagger of recognisable type. Usually associated with the Deccan, these mughal steel daggers have a typical form with flower lobed hilt, and upper bud and central ball to the grip. Sometimes with a knuckleguard, this example has none and features instead a steel mounting to the blade that is chiselled with flower forms. The recurved blade of a different hue steel, appears to be of a very fine crystalline wootz metal to add hardness to this functional section of the dagger. In good condition generally, probably dating to the late 17th or 18th century.
