Indian Brass dhal shield Benares

Description

An attractive decorated brass shield from Benares northern India. The fron decorated with chiselling, coloured lac inlays, and tinned coating to areas of decoration such as fish scales on the fish. The lec areas of red orange and black in good condition, designs of fish, stars  and crescents throughout. Four central bosses engraved and decorated with black inlay. The reverse silver coloured and with four rings to take hand straps. Good old example 19th century.  38 cms diameter
