A wonderful classical 18th/early 19th century Persian shamshir sword with fine gold decoration to the steel mounts. Long deeply curved wootz steel blade with cartouche to the top of thick gold overal incorporating Arabic calligraphy. The hilt with gold damscened crossguard , the grips with additional linear geomtric carving, and its original gold decorated pommel cap. Complete with its original black hide covered scabbard with raised scrollwork designs allover, gold decorated hanging mounts en-suite with the crosspiece. This shamshir is related to the second shamshir listed here, both have a most interesting historical provenance which can be supplied apon request.
