Fine Indian Painted shield Dhal

A very fine Painted Indian shield ‘Dhal’. Thick hide painted front and back with a bold black design with panels of coloured decoration. The front set with four pierced steel bosses, also painted. The reverse with its original cushioned hand pad. Good condition for age, there is some old stable cracking and minor loss to the paint here and there but quite acceptable and not detrimental. Forst half of the 19th century. Approximately 20 inches diameter.
