Eastern Central Asian Silver Kard with Laddered Persian Wootz Blade

Description

 An attractive antique Silver mounted Kard knife or dagger, possibly Turkish or central Asian. The hilt and the sheath of good quality silver, the hilt chiselled with repousse designs of flowers and scrolling panels. The sheath with very finely applied silver beading and filigree, with a hanging loop. The thick and robust blade of Persian manufacture, being of high quality wootz or damascus steel showing the very rare ‘kirk narduban’ or laddered pattern within the swirl of the watering. The blade forte with facetted shaped bolster area again of wootz steel, the spine chiselled with ribs and a cartouche type panel to the top. An interesting and unusual example.
