Early Thai Spears Ayutthaya with steel mounts and guards and Bamboo shafts

 Two scarce antique Thai spears, big heavy examples with stout bamboo hafts. The heads of fine steel fluted and becoming extremely thick and foursided towards their base, where both spears have a four sided steel guard with an ornate fretted edge shaped as a lotus. The collar mounts around the upper shaft are of thick steel, one with ornate decorative bands and some silver floral overlay decoration still remaining, the other of plainer steel probably originally silver-plated or silver-gilt. Above these steel fittings the shaft is bound with cord, one with gold lac/paint. Both of these spears appear to be early examples possibly 18th century/Ayutthaya period. They are substantial weight and of quality good enough to rank as weapons in Royal or noble service. Age wear allover, otherwise very good condition, both blades have minor distortion at the tip, one shaft appears to have been repaired with an added section of bamboo near the foot. 83 inches longest length, the blades 17 and 14 inches respectively. southern asia, thailand, burma, south east asia lance
