Early South Indian Deccan mail and plate Helmet

 An early South Indian helmet formed of very small rivetted mail links and plates of steel. The face guarded by a triangular flap of mail which hangs down from the brow, the crown formed of triangular armour plates surmounted by a round top plate and a tubular mount for a plume or decoration. The mail surrounds the front, sides and back of the head. Very dark aged patination with wear and some holes, loss and some repairs to the mail.  It would benefit from some restoration if taste requires. Mail coifs and helmets were worn complete with mail and plate coats of armour often with armoured leggings, and must have presented a formidable appearance to the enemy! This helmet is of early style and could date across a long period of time, from the 15th to the 18th centuries. We would place it earlier circa 1600, although possibly earlier. indo persian
