Early Sinhalese Spear with lacquered shaft.

Description

A very old and rare spear from Sri Lanka, Sinhala, Kandi circa 1800 or earlier. Long tapering shaft with remains of coloured lacquerwork, the thickened spear blade of quadrilateral cross section, the base of the head with extended steel langet straps to hold the blade firmly to the haft. Age wear throughout, losses to lacquer, iron with pitting and blackened patina. 223 cms long.
