Dayak sword Mandau from Borneo

Description

A very nice quality old Dayak sword ‘mandau’ from Borneo, East Kalimantan, probably from the Kenyah or Kayan tribe. The handle carved from deerhorn in allover motifs, very fine excellent quality work, with the front showing a seated sharp toothed figure. The blade of good steel, with worn chiselled and pierced decoration to the back edge, original wooden scabbard with bands of painted red and white. A good old example, late 19th century
