Dayak dagger Sadap from Borneo Banjarmassin

Description

An interesting dagger  Sadap probably of Dayak origin, Borneo. The hilt of shaped wood with a lovely worn patina, three inlaid brass dots to each side and some simple carving to the pommel. The blade of curved double edged form similar and probably influenced by the arab jambiya dagger. The sheath of wood, retaining some twine cord and rattan binding, another brass dot to the shaped chape. A simple but charming personal item, circa 1900.   southern asia
