Chinese painted shield with Tiger face ‘Po’ 19th century. A rare very large Qing period Chinese rattan /cane shield with painted tigers face.These shields were used by regiments of ‘Tiger soldiers’ in the chinese army, dressed similarly in tiger themed clothing. This example is 88 cms wide in diameter, some of the inside cane binding for handgrips survives, surviving in good overall condition.
