Caucasian ‘Bebut’ or kindjal sword from Armenia or Persia
A nice long sword from the Northern Persia/Armenia/Azerbaijan region. The steel blade with multiple fullers, the forte deeply stamped with a star containing arabic calligraphy probably the makers mark. A panel of inlaid arabic calligraphy above that, also a snake design below. Near the tip is a further area of inlay with a scrolling type design. The hilt of lack horn slabs, iron mounts. The scabbard covered with black ass-hide, the reverse sewn with brass in the Ottoman or turkish style. The mounts of chiselled brass, the iron hanging band with a leather hanging loop and some decorative long leather tassels with solid brass beads to the ends. Interesting scarce sword dating to the second half of the 19th century.middle east russian kindjal bebut military indo persian
