Beautiful Kachin shoulder-Sword from Yunnan

Description

Very nice quality and unusual long sword dha or dao probably from Yunnan in Western China. Directly related to the Dha sword of Western Burma and the hill regions of Burma/Assam. Open faced scabbard with a most unusual and beautifully carved pierced wooden upper section, retaining original woven fabrics and red cloth shoulder strap applied with small silver disc ornaments. Wonderful sword with thick back, sharp single edge and characteristic square tip, engraved and punched with decorative features at top and the bottom. The hilt with a fibre bound grip area and mounted with tin. A very rare sword in superb condition, possibly lacking some bands near the blade tip,  dating to the late 19th or early 20th century.   southern asia
