An attractive antique Ottoman Greek Bichaq knife or shortsword in a silver embossed scabbard. Known as a bichaq or possibly a short yataghan. The scabbard is heavily decorated with panels of embossed scrollwork, the end terminating in a fish type end finial. The upper section with bands of braided silver, and geometric patterns.. The hilt of silver with nielloed decoration, the blade steel with long bands of applied silver pseudo-arabic calligraphy to each side. Good condition, age wear to areas, the hilt with some slight separation and denting, but solid. 19th century, 50 cms long overall, the blade 34 cms.
