Antique Hausa or Nupe Takouba Sword

Description

A very nice example of a Takouba sword from North Africa, probably from the Nupe or Hausa peoples. The brass hilt and sabbard mounts engraved and chiselled allover with designs. Very wide steel blade which was a mark of status, with an additional mounting to the top the front showing an applied strip of brass. The Scabbard of decorated leather applied with green leather pierced adornment and an unusually long decorated brass chape. A good complete example circa 1900.
