Antique 19th century Chinese recurved Bow

Description

A good antique Chinese or Tibetan ‘recurved’ or ‘compound’ war bow. The outer surface of the arms decorated with bands of coloured and painted bark in reds and yellows, the nocks are of solid black horn. Large original wooden siyahs (string-rests) which are tied to the bow arms. The inner face showing the black horn layer, the borders decorated with applied designs, each arms with a character in Chinese script. Good overall condition, an old working repair in lacquered cord to one part of the lower arm, minor age wear, unstrung. Probably late 18th/early 19th century.
